Directions: travel 12 miles south of Gatlinburg, Tennessee along Newfound Gap Road/US Hwy 441. There are two parking lots at the trailhead to choose from, you may see cars parked on the side of the road as the parking lots become full. From Gatlinburg, drive into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on the main Parkway. After entering the park, continue for approximately 1.8 miles to the Sugarlands Visitor Center on your right side. You will park at the visitor center and then walk behind where the main visitor center is to join up with the trail. If you have difficulty locating the trailhead (can be tricky), ask a Ranger to point you to the trailhead. The Gatlinburg Trail allows bikes and pets and is a 3.8 mile hike. Directions to this popular hiking spot. From downtown Gatlinburg, the scenic 23-mile drive to Clingmans Dome will take approximately one hour. Take the main Parkway out of Gatlinburg towards the Sugarlands Visitor Center. At the Visitor Center, continue straight for another 13 miles. Approximately one-tenth of a mile after Newfound Gap, make a right onto Clingmans Dome Road. The seven-mile road will dead-end into the Clingmans Dome parking area. The Clingmans Dome hike is fully-paved and only half a mile. However, it has steep gradient combined and high altitude. This is a hike for hikers as it can take 8 to 10 hours to hike but it is the hike to see the Grotto Falls. Turn onto Historic Natural Trail and follow it several miles until you reach Cherokee Orchard Loop Road inside Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Follow the loop nearly a mile before turning right onto Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Like the loop, this is a one-way road. The Trillium Gap Trail parking area will be on your left approximately a mile and a half down the road. To get to Abrams Falls take the Abrams Falls Trail in Cades Cove. This is a moderate 5 mile round trip hike to see it. Please careful swimming in the base of the falls as the under currents are strong. -Abrams Falls, Tennessee 37882, USA
This is one of the most poular waterfalls to see. The trail to it winds you through beautiful vegetation and nice streams.
